On January 3, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Suu, Vice President of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) received and worked with the delegation of Roger Williams University, USA
On the side of NAPA were leaders of the International Cooperation Department, the Center for Testing and Quality Assurance, the Faculty of Administrative Studies, the Faculty of Political Science, the Faculty of Administrative Law, and the Center for Informatics and Foreign Languages.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Suu expressed his joy at the working visit of the delegation from Roger Williams University, USA, at the National Academy of Public Administration. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Suu expects that the two sides will establish a solid cooperation relationship and jointly develop new and in-depth fields of cooperation in the coming time. The two sides focused on researching and proposing cooperation activities in the areas of mutual interest, especially sustainable development in tertiary institutions: quality assurance, training curriculum development, modern teaching methods for higher education, higher education management, green university, etc.
Responding to NAPA’s hospitality, Professor Steven Esons, Professor of Public Administration, Coordinator of the Sustainable Science Program, and representative of the delegation thanked NAPA for the warm welcome and highly appreciated the suggestions of Vice President Nguyen Quoc Suu. He hopes that experts and lecturers from Roger Williams University would soon collaborate with and support NAPA in (1) reviewing university training programs and developing an accreditation report according to the criteria of sustainable development, an inevitable development trend of modern higher education institutions in the United States and around the world, and (2) implementing the cultural and academic exchange of students.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Suu, on behalf of NAPA, thanked the Roger Williams University delegation for visiting and working at NAPA. He believes that the two sides would soon jointly determine a specific cooperation plan and expresses his willingness to welcome professors and students of Roger Williams University to NAPA within the framework of the future exchange and cooperation programs.
Following the meeting, Prof. Steven Esons – Professor of Public Administration, Coordinator of the Sustainable Science Program and Dr. Joseph W. Roberts – Chair and Professor of Politics and International Relations at Roger Williams University delivered a talk on the topic of sustainable development. The discussion addressed universal perceptions of the concept of sustainable development and the role of governments in addressing global challenges through sustainable development policies, especially the role of universities in preparing students for this mission. The professors also presented the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) for universities, which has been widely applied in the United States and developed countries. The professors hope that they can assist NAPA in reviewing training programs and developing assessment reports as well as a roadmap to achieve the criteria according to this assessment method in the future.
The seminar attracted a large number of leaders, lecturers and students from different faculties and units (Faculty of Administrative Studies, Faculty of Administrative Law, Faculty of Political Science, Center for Informatics and Foreign Languages, etc.). This is an opportunity for the exchange of academic knowledge and useful international experiences for NAPA lecturers and students.
