On October 4th 2017, NAPA organized seminar “Leadership and Management in public sector”. Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan was the key speaker. Presented in the seminar were Dr. Dang Xuan Hoan, NAPA President, NAPA lecturers, staff and students.
At the seminar, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan emphasized leaders and managers play critical role in the public sector and affirmed it is crucial and urgent to train public leaders and managers on leadership and management knowledge and skill in the current context.
Mr. Vu Khoan mentioned the evolution of the leadership and management science in the world and in Vietnam; distinguished between leadership and management, identifying the classification criteria including positioning, implementation method and tools. At the same time, he also referred required knowledge and skills to be acquired by leaders and managers. Especially, Mr. Vu Khoan emphasized cultural influence on management and leadership; distinct characteristics of leadership and management in the cultural, political and social context in Vietnam; required knowledge and skills for Vietnamese public managers and leaders in the context of the ongoing renovation and administrative reform.
The Former Deputy Prime Minister responded to many questions and comments related to public leadership and management in Vietnam: methods of engaging civil servants in training on leadership and management; team building skills leadership and management style development, setting up a scheme for recruitment, appointment and emulation, reward., etc. Mr. Vu Khoan also shared his experiences and highlighted effective methods in leadership, management in the context of Vietnam.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Khac Anh thanked Mr. Vu Khoan and participants for sharing and exchanging issues of leadership and management in public sector. The seminar provided very useful theoretical and practical inputs for NAPA lecturers which will support research and training on leadership and management at NAPA.
