National Academy of Public Administration works with the Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam

The National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) had a working session with the Ambassador of Canada in Vietnam on May 15, 2023, at NAPA headquarters in Hanoi. On behalf of NAPA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, NAPA President, chaired the meeting.

On the side of NAPA, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hau, Chief of Office, Dr. Bui Huy Tung, Director General, Department of Refresher Training Management; Ms. Pham Thi Quynh Hoa, Director General and Dr. Tran Thi Lan Anh, Deputy Director, Department of International Cooperation; Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, Deputy Director, Institute of Administrative Sciences and others Napa international cooperation officers.

Since 1995, NAPA has partnered with Canada through the Didactheque International Program in Public Administration, which is overseen by the National School of Public Administration in Québec, Canada (ENAP). During more than ten years since the cooperation agreement has been in place, the Canadian side has assisted the Academy in a variety of capacity-building initiatives.

 The purpose of the meeting was to introduce NAPA and its civil servant training programs, as well as to examine the possibility of cooperation in training between the two sides in the future.

 Speaking in the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, NAPA President, welcomed the Canadian Embassy delegation in Vietnam, discussed collaboration successes, and recommended future cooperation directions. Specifically:

- Coordinating with the National School of Public Administration, ENAP, Québec, Canada, Laval University, and other training institutions for public leaders and managers in Canada to organize training programs for public leaders and managers, source public leaders, and female civil servants for localities;

- Discussing with Laval University and the University of Ottawa, Canada and co-organizing joint training programs for bachelor and masters; implementing exchange programs of trainers and students; conducting joint research.

- Re-signing the Cooperation Agreement with the Québec School of Administration in Canada; establishing cooperation agreements with Canadian training institutions as a foundation for executing cooperative activities.

- The Embassy of Canada to Vietnam will assist the Academy in developing collaborative partnerships with other Canadian administrative training institutes and administrative science research groups.

H.E. Mr. Shawn Steil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada in Vietnam expressed his delight at the opportunity to engage with the Academy. He also listened to short-term, medium-term, and long-term bilateral collaboration possibilities shared by NAPA.

H.E. Mr. Shawn Steil praised Vietnam’s flexible face-to-face and online female leadership training formats. At the same time, the Ambassador hopes to maintain contact and collaborate with NAPA in the future.

At the end of the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien congratulated the Ambassador on a successful working term and hoped that both sides would foster a bilateral partnership in the future.
