Asian Group for Public Administration

Introduction

Asian Group for Public Administration (AGPA) is regional group affiliated to IIAS. It aims to attract and convene institutions and organizations in the field of Public Administration in Asia through academic activities and events and to promote the development of administrative science in Asia.

AGPA is a flexible and light-structured network, which mainly carries out academic activities and events, with the guidance and support of IIAS and on the basis of mutual respect, consultation and voluntary participation. The Steering Committee of AGPA is responsible for setting the direction and the organizing the academic exchange activities of AGPA.

Goals

  • Promote the culture and professionalization of Public Administration in Asia;
  • Foster comparative studies and develop theories of Public Administration within the context of Asia;
  • Facilitate the implementation of innovative ideas and the adoption of information and communication technologies in the sphere of Public Administration;
  • Structure the exchange of information regarding the theory and practice of Public Administration;
  • Establish contacts between Asian practitioners, academics and civil servants, in topics of common interest in the field of Public Administration;
  • Enlarge network in Asian countries and regions, promote the development of theoretical research and practical innovation in Public Administration in Asia.

Strategic Plan

AGPA priorities are to establish contacts and exchanges among Asian academics and practitioners in Public Administration. It will offer a platform not only between academics and practitioners, but also between esteemed scholars and new talents in the field of Public Administration in Asia; it will offer a platform not only for sharing experiences and best practices but also for inspiring innovative ideas and theories; it will offer a platform not only for learning and exchanging, but also for cooperation and development.

  1. Attract and convene Asian academics and practitioners in PAAGPA would like to gain recognitions and expand its appeals among the Asian academics and practitioners communities in Public Administration through.
    • Academic Events: The Steering Committee of AGPA will organize symposiums, seminars and meetings on important current topics of common interest in the field of Public Administration.
    • Paper Exchange: AGPA will encourage papers exchange through academic events, and recommend good-quality papers to IRAS and other academic journals.
  2. Strengthen cooperation through joint projects AGPA would like to strengthen cooperation and enlarging network among Asian academics and practitioners in the field of Public Administration by the means of focused joint projects.
    • AGPA will carry out its first cooperative book publishing project. It will invite Asian scholars to compile a book on the topic of Public Administration in Asia.
    • AGPA will also carry out a cooperative research project on Basic Public Service Index System.
  3. Develop communication tools and media channels AGPA would like to develop following communication tools and media channels:
    • AGPA Website and Newsletters: design and create a website with the help of IIAS. The same procedure and structure used by other entities of IIAS will be adopted.
    • Event brochures: AGPA will develop event brochures, eg. Invitation brochure when organizing events like seminars, meetings and conferences, etc.
  4. Expand network through cooperation with other organizations AGPA will try to build relations/partnership and carry out joint activities with other organizations/associations active in the field of PA in Asia.
